Brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, Praise the Lord. In this video, I would like to examine a sin that is NOT forgiven: blasphemy against God.
Let us look at what the bible says about this in Matthew 12:31
“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.”
In this verse we see the sin of blasphemy introduced and that it is an unforgivable sin. Why is that? Because, the Holy Ghost is God. The sin of blasphemy against God is unforgivable.
God is one Spirit with 3 souls or persons in 1 omnipotent spirit body: the 3 souls are God the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ (who was God the Word), and the Holy Ghost.
In 1 John 5:7 God and his 3 persons are made known to us:
“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost—or any of the 3 Persons of God—shall not be forgiven. Blasphemy against God the Father or Lord Jesus Christ will also not be forgiven, as they also are God.
What is Blasphemy?
Blasphemy is calling what is holy as unholy, or calling God’s power as Satan’s power.
In Matthew 12:24, Jesus explains blasphemy to us.
"24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
In this context Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Beelzebub, when in reality, He acted by God’s power. They did not rejoice with Jesus but instead had jealousy, malice and hatred toward him. So with this intention of animosity they called the power of God as the power of Satan and that is blasphemy.
In Matthew 12:31-32: Jesus further clarifies this.
“All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven... And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.”
Here, Jesus referred to Himself as the "Son of Man," emphasizing His earthly, human nature. While He walked the earth as a man, insults against Him could be forgiven. However, now that Jesus is resurrected and restored to His divine glory as God, blasphemy against Him now is also unforgivable. So although blasphemy against Jesus at that time would be forgiven, blasphemy against Jesus now will not be forgiven.
God's attributes vs Man's attributes
To understand this, let’s compare God’s attributes and man’s attributes. The way in which they are the same is that they both have souls.
The way in which they are different is in their body. God has 3 souls in the same omnipotent spirit body. While man has one soul in one flesh body. God has an invisible, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent spirt body. Man on the other hand has a mortal flesh body.
So how did Jesus go from being God to man and then back to being God again? It was in this manner. First, His soul was in the omnipotent SPIRIT body- He was God the Word. Second, His soul then left that body and entered a mere FLESH body to become man- He was Jesus the Son of man. Third, he was crucified and killed, His soul was resurrected and then re-entered the Omnipotent SPIRIT body to become God again– He is now the Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ
Attributes of God
God is a Spirit, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, invisible, and immortal. No one can see God and live
1. God is not a fleshly man.
Both Scripture and common sense tell us this.
Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man …”Man is very limited in all capacity—what he can do, what he understands, and where he can be. However, God is the opposite, He has infinite capacities.
2. God is omnipotent.
Revelation 19:6 says, “... Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”
3. God is omniscient.
Psalm 147:5 says, “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.”
4. God is omnipresent.
Psalm 135:6 says, “Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.”
Psalm 139:7-8 says, “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there”
5. God is invisible and immortal
1 Timothy 1:17 says “17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever.”
What are Man’s attributes?
Man is flesh, limited in power and understanding, mortal, and vulnerable to death. These attributes are also seen in Jesus when he came to earth, He humbled Himself, giving up divine Godly privileges to become fully man with a mortal body and he was vulnerable to death:
John 1:14 explains this: “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.”
Philippians 2:6-7: “He... made Himself of no reputation and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.”
As a man, unlike God, Jesus could die and be seen by others. Hebrews 2:9 confirms: “Jesus... was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death.”
But now, today, the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is fully restored as God—omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent back to the Spirit body. Therefore, blasphemy against Him in His divine state, now, is unforgivable.
Hebrews 1:8
"8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom."
This verse indicates that the Son is now God again and we must be very careful when we speak of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ because he is now exalted and is God Almighty.
Some people are misled to think that Jesus was God while he was man on earth. They think this because of the great miracles he did. But those miracles were performed by the power of God. So, although Jesus himself has said that speaking against the Son of man will be forgiven, when someone is intentionally blaspheming the power of God that is an unforgivable sin. For example, in this same chapter, Matthew 13, the pharisees say that the miracles Jesus did was done by the power of Beelzebub. This is calling the power of God as the power of the devil which is blasphemy.
Although he was man and the power of God is working through him. When the pharisees are ridiculing the power of God that is working through him and calling that power, the power of Beelzebub, that is blasphemy because they are calling that which is Godly – ungodly. They are speaking against the power of God.
Conclusion
The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Blasphemy against God is the sin that will not be forgiven—whether against the Holy Ghost, God the Father, or the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. Let us honor and revere God in all that we say and do, walking in humility and truth. May God bless you. Thank you.
